SO YOU THINK YOU CAN TAP?
Our tap camp is designed for those who can’t get enough of tap. Jessie Sawyers and Danny Nielsen have designed a
program to satisfy both advanced beginner to advanced tappers. The day will begin with designation into appropriate level
groups to hone technique abilities and to learn traditional routines from the legends of tap. Jessie, camp co-director, has this to
say about the camp, "I have an immense respect for all of the masters of tap who have paved the way for tap dancing, as we
experience it today. To me, the true brilliance of their contributions lies in the fact that they knew their audiences well. They knew
how to give them what they wanted. It was never just about the steps! As young people coming up in the world of tap dancing,
we need to take a page out of their book and work tirelessly to discover what our audiences want and then give it to them. This
can be YOUR contribution to tap dancing if you so choose. Let's pay tribute by doing work and having a great time doing it!"
A few words about our camp…
Get ready to put on a shoe and hit some wood! The Vancouver Tap Dance Society has created a program with tap dance at the core of the curriculum that includes the introduction to Hip Hop, Jazz and Stage. Learn or improve your tap skills. Get in the groove with some hip hop. Explore theatrics with a taste of our stage program. Your camp coordinator Kristina will guide you through the classes. This is a wonderful chance to sample a few forms of dance.

Adult Summer Programs
Summer Delignt with Mary Lou Brien
Tuesdays July 20-August 17
Advanced Beginner/Intermediate 6:30-7:45
Absolute Beginner 7:45-9:00pm
Includes use of Rental Tap Shoes
Mary-Lou has worked extensively in Canada as a dancer, choreographer and teacher trained in the disciplines of Ballet, Jazz, Tap and Modern. She has many television , film and theatre credits to her name including the latest as a featured Tap dancer in the Opening Ceremony of the Vancouver 2010 Olympics on CTV and NBC. Others include theatrical appearances in Cabaret, Pippin, Aida, La Traviata, Menopausal the Musical, and TV shows on CBC, CTV, TSN, PAX to mention a few. For the last 8 years she has focused her energies and talents to her first love, Tap. She has developed a master Tap competitive group who have won GOLD at the World Tap Dance competition in Reisa, Germany.
